When did the attack start?
After the Hamas attack, sirens sounded in central and southern Israel at 6.35 am on Saturday morning. This was the beginning of Hamas firing thousands of rockets at Israel. At 7:40 am, Israeli Defense Forces confirmed that Hamas fighters had entered southern Israel from Gaza. After this, sirens sounded in Jerusalem also. However, it was not clear whether any rocket had hit the city.
At 8:23 in the morning, Hamas took people hostage in southern Israel and fired rockets one after another. With this Israel issued an alert for war.
Israel declared war
At 10:34 am, Israel declared war against Hamas and at 10:46 am, Israel attacked Gaza. After this, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gave his first statement. “We are at war,” he said.
At 12:21 pm, the Israeli army sent troops into southern Israel to recapture the cities captured by Hamas extremists. Shortly thereafter, Israel claimed that it targeted 21 buildings carrying military operations of Hamas.
Countries around the world responded
America gave its first statement at 2:29 pm on Saturday. America condemned Hamas attacks and expressed support for Israel. After this, President Joe Biden spoke to Netanyahu to express his condolences and support. At the same time, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences and support towards Israel.
Saudi Arabia called on Palestine and Israel to reduce tensions with immediate effect. At the same time, Iran congratulated Hamas and said that it will stand with the Palestinian fighters. Qatar’s Foreign Ministry has also issued a statement saying that only Israel is responsible for the increasing violence against the Palestinian people.
Sirens kept ringing in Israel
At 10:16 pm, Prime Minister Netanyahu addressed the nation and vowed to eliminate Hamas. During that time, sirens continued to sound throughout Israel and the Israeli army continued to carry out air strikes on Gaza. The first phase of the war ended at 2:19 pm. Israeli hostages released from Hamas’ clutches
Hamas took Israeli soldiers hostage in the town of Ofakim in southern Israel. They were rescued on Sunday. Those rescued included three Israeli soldiers. They suffered minor injuries. The people who held the soldiers hostage were killed by the army.
