According to the rules of the United Nations Security Council, to pass any resolution it is necessary to have the support of at least nine member countries. For this reason Russia’s proposal was rejected.
Before the vote on Russia’s resolution, Russian Ambassador to the UN Vasil Nevenzia said, “Russia’s resolution has been introduced in view of the continuous aggravation of the recent crisis. The number of casualties in the war is increasing every hour.”
But after Russia’s proposal was rejected in the United Nations, Vasil Nevenzia said, “It has once again been established that the United Nations Security Council is trapped in the web of Western self-interest.
