TikTok’s bone smashing trend is being linked to the rule of 19th century German surgeon and anatomist Julius Wolff, who used to heal the face by hitting it with a hammer. In this method, facial bones are continuously formed and old or damaged bones are continuously destroyed. New bones keep coming in their place.
However, there is no evidence that hitting your face with sharp objects will make you more attractive. In fact the bone smashing principle is the opposite of Wolfe’s law. A blow from a sharp object can actually cause damage such as fractures.
People’s reasoning behind bone smashing
The argument of the people behind bone smashing is that force on the bones leads to remodeling of the face. In this process strong and thick bones are formed. At the same time, if you do not do this, your bones may become thin or weak. Because of this, many TikTokers have resorted to bone smashing to sculpt their facial features to achieve the facial look.
According to the Evening Standard newspaper, repeated injuries to a broken bone can cause nerve damage and discomfort, while excessive force can result in fractures and lifelong deformities.
