Niger 29 Soldiers Killed Attacked By Suspected Jihadists Near Mali Border Informed By Defence Ministry

Niger Soldiers Died: 29 soldiers have been killed in an attack by suspected jihadists in western Niger. Niger Defense Ministry gave this information while announcing three-day national mourning on Monday (October 2) night. Niger’s defense ministry said in a televised statement that more than a hundred militants used explosive devices and kamikaze vehicles to target soldiers.

In this terrorist attack, two soldiers were seriously injured and several dozen terrorists were also killed. According to the ministry, the attack took place during a military operation near Tabatol, near the country’s border with Mali. Niger military patrols this border area, the objective of which is to neutralize the threat posed by Islamic State in the border area.

“Communications of the terrorists, who were forced to retreat,” the Niger Defense Ministry said, adding that the attackers took advantage of outside help.

The jihadist insurgency has affected Africa’s Sahel region for more than a decade, spreading to northern Mali in 2012 before spreading to neighboring Niger and Burkina Faso in 2015.

The three border areas between Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso have regularly been the site of attacks by militants linked to the Islamic State group and al-Qaeda. The violence has led to military occupations in all three countries, with the latest incident in Niger following a coup on July 26.

Let us tell you that in August, at least 17 Nigerian soldiers were killed and 20 were injured in an attack by suspected jihadists near the border between Niger and Burkina Faso.

Niger is battling two jihadist rebels. The first is the insurgency in its south-east due to the long-running conflict in neighboring Nigeria, and the second is the invasion of terrorists coming from Mali and Burkina Faso in the west.

1,500 French soldiers present
Bazoum, who was ousted after Niger’s coup, has been kept in his presidential residence along with his wife and son. On Monday, his lawyers said they had filed a lawsuit against the coup leaders. France has kept about 1,500 of its troops in the former West African colony as part of an anti-jihadist deployment in the Sahel and is demanding their release from the coup leaders. There is a demand for talks for return.
