According to the rules of American citizenship, if a child is born on American soil, he automatically gets American citizenship. Even if his parents are citizens of any country. This rule also applies to illegal immigrants who cross the US border and enter the country. Ramaswamy wants to change this. During the debate, Ramaswami told how the child of a Mexican diplomat may have been born in America. But under the rules of the 14th Amendment, he cannot become an American citizen. Ramaswamy said, ‘The rules say that all people born in America and living under the law and jurisdiction of the country are citizens. But still no one believes that the child of a Mexican diplomat born in this country can acquire birthright citizenship.
