Moscow’s embassy in Islamabad said on Tuesday that Pakistan has received the first consignment of LPG from Russia, which is Islamabad’s first batch of LPG. The second big thing is energy purchase.
Regarding this shipment, the embassy said that it was distributed with Iranian help. This consignment of LPG has been received after Pakistan received the first delivery of Russian crude oil under the agreement signed between the two countries earlier this year. At the same time, according to the report, due to funds, Pakistan is trying to stay away from it.
Russian Embassy gave information
The Russian Embassy said in a post on social media that Russia has supplied 100,000 metric tons of LPG to Pakistan through Iran’s Sarkhs Special Economic Zone. Consultation is going on on the second batch. However, no information has been given on the extent of Iran’s involvement in this. Also, it was not clear what is the cost of LPG and whether any discount has been given on it.
This is a problem for Pakistan
After receiving this consignment, Pakistan has said that it had paid for Russian crude oil in Chinese currency but the value of the deal was never disclosed. Let us tell you that the concessional imports from Russia provide considerable relief as Islamabad is facing an economic crisis along with an acute balance of payments problem, due to which there is a risk of default on its external debt. In such a situation, he will not be able to pay the outstanding amount of the second batch and the first batch.
The deal was done in January this year
The energy deal between Russia and Pakistan was finalized in January 2023 this year. A Russian delegation had visited Islamabad for this deal. During the meeting that lasted for three days, both the countries had reached the decision that a deal would be finalized by the end of March this year. But before the deal, all the technical issues including issues like insurance, transportation and payment will be resolved.
