China Taiwan Crisis News: Amidst the atmosphere of tension with China, Taiwan has done something which will increase China’s anxiety. Taiwan on Thursday (September 28) unveiled its first indigenous submarine and presented it to the world. On this occasion, Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing Wen praised this submarine. He said that this will strengthen and secure us amidst the increasing threat of attack by the Chinese army.
This submarine was unveiled in a program organized at the shipyard located in Kaohsiung city of Taiwan. This diesel-electric submarine has been named ‘Narwhal’ or ‘Sea Monster’. Calling it a big achievement, the Taiwanese President said that this submarine shows our solid commitment towards the defense of the country.
Second submarine will be ready by 2027
In his address, the Taiwanese President said, “In the past, a domestically built submarine was considered impossible, but today a submarine designed and built by our countrymen is in front of you. If all goes well, the first submarine is due for delivery by the end of 2024.” “Will be ready and the second one is planned to be completed by 2027.”
Why did Taiwan need this?
This submarine has great importance for Taiwan. Actually, it will help a lot in protecting the island and its outlying areas from the Chinese Navy. In the event of a submarine attack, this can prevent the Chinese Navy from encircling Taiwan and cutting off the island from external resources. The Taiwanese government said that these submarines could prevent China from bypassing the First Island Chain, an imaginary defense line connecting Taiwan, Japan, the Philippines and Indonesia.
How do they fit into Taiwan’s defense strategy?
These submarines are part of Taiwan’s overall strategy to prevent war. Although its military is much smaller than China’s, Taiwan aims to make an attack as difficult as possible so that it would be too expensive to make it worthwhile.
