‘We have no intention of recognizing Israel as a country…’ Pakistan Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani said this on Sunday. This statement of Pakistan has come at a time when beliefs about Israel are changing in the Middle East Asian countries i.e. Arab countries. This situation can also bring big trouble for Pakistan.

In fact, during the 78th General Meeting of the United Nations General Assembly last week, Israel’s Foreign Minister Eli Cohen met the representatives of those Muslim countries which have not yet recognized this country. Israel’s Foreign Minister claims that there are about 6 to 7 Muslim countries that want to ‘normalize’ relations. These include UAE, Bahrain, Morocco and Sudan.

but  Saudi Arabia, the richest country in the Middle East, has taken a step forward. ‘Abraham Agreement’ was signed between Israel and Saudi Arabia in the presence of America on the sidelines of the United Nations meeting.  Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the biggest leader of the Sunni Muslim countries, told Fox News that talks are on to normalize relations with Israel, which is bringing the two countries closer every day. ="text-align: justify;"However, when Mohammed bin Salman was asked whether he was moving towards formal relations with Israel (which would include recognizing it as a state), he replied that the issue of Palestine is important. This has to be solved.

The roots of the changing politics of Middle-East Asia are not only the presidential elections to be held in America next year, but also Saudi Arabia’s own ambition of becoming a nuclear-rich country. The Biden government wants to show an agreement between Israel and Saudi Arabia as a major success in foreign policy in the elections. Saudi Arabia, on the other hand, wants to make defense deals with Israel. Along with this, it also intends to start a civil nuclear program. Sooner or later the matter may even reach the point of achieving nuclear weapon capability.

On the other hand, Iran is at the center of Israel’s increasing closeness with Muslim countries. The enmity between these two countries is well known and Iran has a figure of thirty-six more than Saudi Arabia. The enmity between these two Muslim countries is also seen to be linked to Shia-Sunni politics.

On the other hand, in Muslim countries, the issue of Palestine may be related to emotions, but the result of the efforts started in the year 2020 during the time of former US President Donald Trump is that UAE, Bahrain, Morocco and Sudan are now having normal relations with Israel. Moving towards building relationships.

A statement was also issued from the office of Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu. It has been said that this deal is expected to end the ongoing conflict with Arab countries. Along with this, there can be talk of an economic corridor connecting the Middle East, Europe and Asia. In the statement issued by America, it has been said that peace and progress in Middle East Asia were discussed in this meeting. Along with this, talks were also held on restoration of peace in both the countries and areas.

Saudi Arabia is the second largest oil producing country in the world. After the way Russia had stopped the supply of oil after the Ukraine war, there was pressure on the Biden government to further improve relations with Saudi Arabia. Tension between the two countries reached its peak after the murder of journalist Jamal Khagoshi in 2018.

Pakistan is the only country among Muslim countries which has acquired the capability of nuclear bomb. On this basis, Pakistan considers itself the new ‘Caliph’ of Arab countries. Whenever Pakistan is stuck in economic problems, Saudi Arabia has always helped it.

But now beliefs are changing in Muslim countries also. The office of OEC, an organization of Muslim countries, is in Jeddah, the capital of Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia also has dominance in this organization. If Saudi Arabia recognizes Israel, it is sure to have an impact on Muslim countries as well.

What does Saudi Arabia want in the agreement?

As far as Palestine is concerned. Saudi Arabia may not recognize Israel as a country just because of this issue, but it will not affect the relationship between the two countries. Along with this, the government of Saudi Arabia will keep telling its people and Muslim countries that it is still fighting for Palestine.

What are Israel’s interests

  • Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu has said many times that the Abraham Accords is like a big gift for his country and America is behind it. Israel also has high hopes from its relationship with Saudi Arabia, the richest and most powerful Muslim country. In fact, after this agreement, pressure will also increase on Muslim countries which reject Israel completely. Along with this, other big Muslim countries Malaysia and Indonesia can also open their doors to Israel.
  • Along with Saudi Arabia, Israel is now also negotiating mutual defense agreements with America. Actually, Israel wants to make such a pact after which it can take any action on its own.
  • Israel’s Netanyahu government is in favor of giving some leeway to the Palestine Authority in the Gaza Strip. Under the peace agreement with Israel, it has got some rights in the disputed area. However, the Palestinian organization Hamas has occupied some of its areas. In July this year, Netanyahu had announced that he would provide more support to the authority in view of the threat from Hamas. Actually, Israel is trying to collect more taxes from this area through the authority.
  • The Israeli government is currently surrounded by various allegations, alliance conflicts and the ongoing fraud case by PM Netanyahu. If the government presents such a deal as a matter of national pride, the entire debate will change.

What are America’s interests?
Through this deal, America is preparing to give a big blow to China’s growing dominance in Middle-East Asia. China’s influence in this region has also been strengthened by the fact that it has already brought arch enemies Saudi Arabia and Iran together for talks last year. With this, America will also form an anti-Iran alliance with its friend Israel in which it will play the lead role. If America guarantees security to Saudi Arabia as per its demand, then in return it will also get the right to interfere in oil producing centers.

Relations between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia
In Pakistan, India and Israel are seen as enemies of Islam. This neighboring country of India is trying to make itself the new leader of Muslim countries. The two major religious centers of Islam, Mecca and Medina, are in Saudi Arabia. In the last few years, relations with Saudi Arabia and India have reached heights. Now Saudi Arabia’s friendship with Israel also seems to be deepening. Amidst this new changing development, it will not be easy for Pakistan to ignore Israel.

If we look at history, the friendship between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan has also been no less deep. While Saudi Arabia has been providing financial assistance to Pakistan, Pakistan, which has the capability of nuclear bomb, has been guaranteeing security. But now he can get this guarantee from Israel and America also. In such a situation, what will be the usefulness of Pakistan in the eyes of the richest country for the Muslim countries is also a big question.

However, Pakistan or Saudi Arabia have historical relations. The responsibility of security of religious places built in Mecca-Medina rests with Pakistan. In return, Wahabi fundamentalist groups of Saudi Arabia are allowed in Pakistan. Even during the Cold War, relations between the two countries were very deep. Even during the Afghan Jihad in 1979-89, both the countries were helping each other. While the Iranian Revolution had taken the Shia Muslim community under its influence, the Saudi-Pakistani alliance in Afghanistan and the Islamic policy of General Zia took the Sunni Muslims into its fold.

Now let us remember the statement of Mohammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan, in which he says that Muslims all over the world should cooperate and coordinate with each other, only then they can progress. The first Prime Minister of Pakistan, Liaquat Ali Khan, had said in the year 1951 that if Western countries can unite to save their way of life, then why cannot Muslim countries do the same. In the last 75 years, Muslim countries have also helped each other. But now developments are changing rapidly in Muslim countries.

Pakistan may face challenges

  • Saudi Arabia’s closeness to Israel may bring tension in relations with Pakistan. Pakistan has always been against Israel on the issue of Palestine. Even a slight inclination of Saudi Arabia can soften the stance of other Muslim countries on this issue. This will be a very dilemmatic situation for Pakistan.
  • The way Arab Muslim countries are talking about normalizing relations with Israel, in this situation Pakistan may get isolated. Because his going with Israel may anger China. Israel is an ally of America through which it wants to stop China’s growing dominance in the Middle East. Along with this, Pakistan’s position may also get weakened on the forums of Muslim countries.
  • There are many fundamentalist religious groups inside Pakistan which consider Israel as their enemy on the issue of Palestine. If Pakistan comes under any pressure and tries to increase relations with Israel, then the government there may have to face opposition.
  • Pakistan’s penetration in the Middle East region due to the friendship between Saudi Arabia and Israel. It may reduce. Due to the two countries, new types of economic relations and alliances can be formed.
  • Saudi Arabia has helped Pakistan worth billions of rupees in the last 75 years. The truth is that Saudi Arabia has saved Pakistan from poverty every time. Any deterioration in relations between the two countries can become a big challenge for Pakistan.
