Singapore Indian Origin Worker Died At Construction Site Due To Cable Drum

A 34-year-old Indian citizen died in an accident at a construction site in Singapore last Sunday (24 September). Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower informed that the accident occurred at Pasir Ris Industrial Drive 1 on Sunday afternoon, when the Indian national was injured by a steel stand supporting a cable drum.

According to The Straits Times report, a cable drum is a round, cylindrical object, which is used to carry wires and cables. Officials said that immediately after the injury, the injured was taken to the General Hospital, where he died. Officials said that he worked in Alliance E&C Company.

19 deaths in Singapore so far in 2023
Construction and road construction company Hong Ho Global was laying the cable at the construction site in Singapore. However, Hong Hawk Global has been ordered to stop cable laying work immediately after the incident. Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower said that as a general safety measure, the cable drum and its supporting structure should be stable and secure during cabling work. The ministry said it is investigating the accident. Let us tell you that so far in the year 2023, there have been at least 19 work-related deaths in Singapore.

In comparison, there were a total of 30 workplace deaths in 2020, 37 in 2021 and 46 in 2022. Singapore’s senior minister Zaki Mohammed said that the maximum fine for violation of safety and health laws at some workplaces will be increased from SGD 20,000 to SGD 50,000.

Accident in Singapore on 15 September
A 45-year-old Indian worker died after being hit by a motorcycle at a construction site in Singapore on September 15 at 1:00 am. While working on the Pan-Island Expressway in Singapore, an Indian worker was doing traffic control work when a motorcyclist coming from Tuas pushed the Indian worker. However, the motorcycle driver also died in this accident.
