However, even American intelligence agencies had no idea that Hamas would carry out the attack in such a brutal manner.
Israeli officials had received a warning
The US Intelligence Department had said that Hamas was preparing to increase cross-border rocket attacks. At the same time, Middle Eastern allies, including Arab countries, had repeatedly warned American and Israeli officials that Palestinian anger had reached dangerous levels. CIA Director Bill Burns had also recently expressed concern over the increasing violence between Israelis and Palestinians. But after the Hamas attack, US and Israeli officials have admitted that they had underestimated the threat of Hamas. Along with this, some American officials believe that there was too much confidence in Israel’s defense policies.
A small attack was expected from Hamas
The report also mentions that most American intelligence officials expected that there could be small attacks from Hamas, in which there was a possibility that perhaps some rockets would be fired, which would be stopped by Israel’s Iron Dome. It is noteworthy that on October 7, Hamas suddenly attacked Israel and fired more than 5000 rockets within 20 minutes, in which more than 13 00 Israeli citizens have died so far. Along with this thousands of people are injured. After the attack by Hamas, Israel is now retaliating by entering the Gaza Strip.
