Israel-Palestine Conflict: Last week, on Saturday (7 October 2023), Hamas attacked early in the morning and killed about 1200 civilians in Israel. In response to which Israel started attacking Hamas positions in the Gaza Strip. Israel’s Defense Minister said, there will be no Gaza in the future. In such a situation, the question arises that what is it about which Israel and Palestine are fighting among themselves?

On May 14, 1948, a country came into existence in the Middle East, whose name was Israel. The very day Israel was formed, Israel’s war with countries like Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Iran started. Palestinians were also involved in this war, but the Jews had the upper hand over the Arab countries. The war ended after a year. The Israeli army expelled seven and a half lakh Palestinians. A large area of Palestine had come under the control of Israel.

When Palestine broke into two parts
In 1949, Israel drew an armistice line in which two areas of Palestine were created. First West Bank and second Gaza. Gaza is also called Gaza Strip. In the seventies a leader emerges in Palestine. Name was Yasser Arafat. Arafat created PLO i.e. Palestine Liberation Organization. In 20 years, PLO carried out many attacks on Israel. Here he targeted Israeli players and the embassy. PLO attacks on Israel continued for two decades but in 1993 a peace initiative was taken.

Peace between PLO and Israel after 44 years
In 1993, PLO leader Yasser Arafat and Israeli PM Yitzhak Rabin signed an agreement, according to which if the PLO would leave the path of fundamentalism and violence, Israel also promised peace. After the agreement, Palestine National Authority was formed which represented Palestine at the international level, but a group of Palestinians did not accept this. The name of that group was Hamas.

Hamas took command of the battle
Two years after the Oslo Accords, Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin was assassinated. Israel’s right-wing supporters are accused of the murder. It is from here that a new phase of conflict between Israel and Palestine begins. At the center of which was Hamas.

The full name of Hamas is Harakat al-Muqawama al-Islamiyya. It carried out its first attack in 1989. In which two Israelis were killed. In October 1994, Hamas carried out its first suicide attack. 22 Israeli civilians were killed in that attack in Tel Aviv.

In 1988, Hamas published its first charter, after which Hamas attacks intensified. In 2004, Hamas founder Sheikh Ahmed Yassin was killed in an Israeli airstrike. Gaza has been under the rule of Hamas since Israel gave up its occupation of the Gaza Strip in 2005.
