Philippines Airports On High Alert: The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines said that they have received the news of a bomb being planted in a commercial plane through an email. After this, the Civil Aviation Authority has put 42 airports on high alert on Friday (6 October).

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) of the Philippines said in a media advisory that all immediately enhanced security measures are being implemented at 42 commercial airports in the Philippines. During this time, information regarding bomb warnings is being investigated.

In the information given by CAA, it said that the flights identified with the bomb were headed towards Cebu, Bicol, Davao and Palawan and warnings were received by air traffic services through email. The islands of Cebu and Palawan are popular destinations for foreign tourists. However, it is not yet known when the threats were issued. Apart from this, it has been said that the information is still subject to verification, immediate security measures are being implemented at all airports.

Statement from the Philippines’ Transport Minister
Philippines Transportation Minister Jaime Bautista said patrols and K9 units have been deployed at all terminals of Manila International Airport and law enforcement agencies are closely coordinating. “There will be no expected impact on any scheduled flights and we would like to reassure those traveling that protocols are in place to ensure everyone’s safety,” he said in a statement.

Order of Ricardo C. Banayat
Security and Intelligence Service (CSIS) Assistant Director General Ricardo C. Banayat issued a press release ordering all CAAP airports and regional hubs to direct security personnel to manage the expected high volume of passenger and vehicle traffic at the airport. CAAP said this is to ensure the safety of passengers, airport staff and airport facilities.

Strict access control procedures will be implemented for both staff and vehicles, along with thorough inspection of passengers and cargo. CAAP-CSIS said its staff are collaborating closely with the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group (PNP-AVSEGRU) and the military to intensify intelligence and surveillance operations.
