US Flight News: An American man has been sentenced to two years in jail after being found guilty of ‘obscene acts’ on a female co-passenger sitting next to him on a flight. 50-year-old Mohammad Jawad Ansari committed this act during a flight from Cleveland to Los Angeles in February 2020. Ansari had inappropriately touched a woman sleeping on the seat next to him in the plane, about which the victim had also complained to the cabin crew.
According to AFP report, Ansari had denied the incident of ‘obscene acts’ with a female co-passenger in the court, calling it a lie, however, after investigation, Ansari was found guilty. “The victim was extremely frightened after Ansari’s actions,” the prosecutor told a Los Angeles court. “Witnesses reported that she kept crying for the rest of the flight.”
Accused kept touching inappropriately
According to the report, officials said that the victim was wearing a short dress during the incident. In such a situation, Ansari tried to touch her inappropriately. In the beginning, Ansari may have committed this mistake unknowingly to the victim, but he kept repeating his mistake again and again. After which the victim cried and told about the incident to the cabin crew present in the plane.
The victim is going through mental torture
The woman’s lawyer said that she is going through mental torture after this incident that happened in the plane. After this incident, the victim remains scared of her co-passenger during the flight. She is not able to sleep peacefully in the flight. In fact, he is afraid that the passenger sitting next to him will do something wrong with him. In such a situation, he now has to struggle to sleep in the plane. According to the report, the court sentenced Ansari to 21 months in jail and ordered him to pay a fine of more than $40,000.
