North Korea Nuclear Weapon: North Korea has banned the removal of nuclear reactors from its main nuclear complex. A South Korean news report on Thursday (October 5) quoted a government source as saying that North Korea has halted the nuclear reactor at its main nuclear complex from possibly extracting plutonium.

The report claimed that North Korea can prepare weapons by using unused fuel rods from nuclear reactors. According to intelligence assessments by American and South Korean officials, the 5 MW nuclear reactor at the Yongbyon nuclear complex was shut down in late September.

‘The possibility of nuclear testing cannot be ruled out’

South Korean newspaper Donga Ilbo, quoting a government official, writes that South Korea and the United States believe that there is a possibility that North Korea is extracting plutonium to make weapons. “The possibility of a nuclear test by North Korea cannot be ruled out,” Donga Ilbo quoted a senior government official as saying.

However, the official did not tell the newspaper the evidence or references behind this claim which would prove that North Korea is preparing nuclear weapons. South Korean Defense Ministry spokesman Jeon Ha-gyu declined to comment on details of the report, but said US and South Korean intelligence officials were closely monitoring the developments.

North Korea tells the world that it has nuclear weapons, but it avoids disclosing its number. North Korea has kept the number of nuclear weapons secret.

North Korea has conducted 6 underground nuclear tests so far. Countries around the world are worried that North Korea may conduct more tests in the future. Last week, a constitutional change was made in the nuclear policy in the North Korean Parliament. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has ordered to rapidly increase nuclear weapons.
