Italy Bus Accident: A bus running on methane gas fell from a bridge in Venice, Italy on Tuesday (October 3). The bus caught fire after falling off the bridge. A total of 21 people, including two children and foreigners, died in this accident. 18 people were also injured. City Mayor Luigi Brugnaro informed about the accident on Facebook.

When the bus full of passengers was going towards the camping ground. Then at around 7:30 in the night it met with an accident on an overpass. The bus caught fire immediately. The bus fell near railway lines in Mestre district. However, the cause of the accident is not clear yet. Venice city councilor Renato Boraso said preliminary investigations showed the 40-year-old bus driver had been ill before the accident.

PM Georgia Meloni expressed condolences
Venice region governor Luca Zaia said the death toll was 21 and more than 20 people were hospitalized. Efforts to identify the dead bodies are ongoing. The victims and injured include not only people from Italy, but also people from many other countries. A fire broke out after a bridge on a railway line connecting the Italian city of Mestre and Marghera districts collapsed.

The country’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has expressed deep condolences on the accident. “I am in contact with Mayor Luigi Brugnaro and (Transport) Minister Matteo Salvini to follow up on this tragedy,” he said in a statement.

Bus fell 100 feet near railway track
After breaking the barrier, the bus went off the bridge and fell about 30 meters (100 feet) near the railway tracks below, according to Italy’s Il Corriere Della Sera newspaper. Meanwhile, a fire broke out after the bus collided with power lines.

Italy’s Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi said the fire spread rapidly due to methane after coming in contact with electrical wires. He said that I am afraid that the death toll will increase.

How often do such tragic accidents happen?
In 2013, 40 people died when a bus fell from a bridge in southern Italy. Apart from this, 16 people aboard a bus carrying Hungarian students were killed near the northern city of Verona in 2017.

In July 2018, a bus carrying a group of about 50 people going on vacation to Naples fell off a bridge near the city, killing a total of 40 people.
