Nazi Veteran in Canadian Parliament: Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has apologized on behalf of the Canadian Parliament for honoring a Nazi ‘fighter’ in Parliament. However, he has personally refused to accept this allegation.

The opposition has targeted PM Trudeau over this incident and demanded that he should apologize and call it a big embarrassment for the country. It is noteworthy that on September 22, 98-year-old Ukrainian citizen Yaroslav Hunka was honored in the Canadian Parliament and was described as a hero of Ukraine and Canada.

What did Justin Trudeau say?

Hunka is accused of serving in the SS division of the Nazi army during the Second World War. Now Trudeau has apologized on behalf of Parliament regarding this incident. According to CBC News, Trudeau said in a statement to the media, ‘This was a mistake that has deeply embarrassed Parliament and Canada. All of us who were in this House on Friday deeply regret that we stood up and applauded even though we were not aware of the context (of joining the Nazi army).

Trudeau also said, “This was a terrible violation of the memories of the millions of people killed in the Holocaust.” He said that the celebration held in Parliament for former soldier Yaroslav Hunka had a deep and painful impact on the community that was targeted during the Second World War. These include Jews, Poles, Roma, LGBT communities.

Trudeau also said Canada deeply regrets the involvement of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the incident, CBC News reported. For this reason, a picture was presented praising Hunka. Trudeau said Canada has apologized to Zelensky and the Ukrainian delegation through diplomatic channels.
