Why do earthquakes occur again and again in Afghanistan?

Afghanistan is often hit by earthquakes, mainly in the Hindu Kush mountain range area. This region is present near the junction (intersection) of the Eurasian and Indian tectonic plates. UNICEF has said that more than 90 percent of those who died in previous earthquakes were women and children.
