Israel-Palestine Conflict: The war between extremist organization Hamas and Israel has now intensified. Strong attacks are being made from both sides. Amidst this conflict, Israel’s top leaders have started discussing the possibility of setting aside mutual differences and forming an emergency national unity government in the country to deal with the complex situation arising after the unexpected attack by Hamas extremists.

According to news agency PTI, according to the report of Israel’s daily newspaper Haaretz, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had a meeting with opposition leaders Yair Lapid and Benny Gantz. Opposition leaders have discussed the possibility of joining Netanyahu’s government.

Both opposition leaders have expressed their desire to join the government, but Lapid has demanded the removal of right-wing leaders and ministers, as well as Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben-Gvir. Benny Gantz has agreed to join the government.

Something similar happened during the 1967 war also
Recalling the 1967 war, Netanyahu also cited the example of Likud leader Menachem Begin joining the government of then Prime Minister Levi Eshkol, according to the newspaper report. Netanyahu said that when he met him for a security meeting, he (PM Eshkol) had offered both the leaders to join the emergency unity government.

Before Netanyahu, Lapid was the Prime Minister of Israel.
Opposition leader Lapid, however, refuted these claims, saying that it was he who presented the option of forming a unity government after a meeting with Netanyahu. Lapid was the country’s Prime Minister before Netanyahu returned to power in December last year.

Former Defense Minister Benny Gantz said he is positively considering joining a government focused on the security situation. He has also served as the Chief of Staff of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in the past.

‘Agreed agreed on forming emergency unity government’
“During this emergency situation, I am ready to put aside all disagreements and form a professional, limited emergency unity government to carry out the difficult, complex and long campaign we are facing,” Yair Lapid told Netanyahu during the meeting, the newspaper reported. We can manage the problems we are facing.
