Locals in panic due to five tremors

According to the report, after the earthquake of magnitude 6.3, five aftershocks of magnitude 5.5, 4.7, 6.3, 5.9 and 4.6 occurred respectively, due to which people went into panic. “We were in our offices and suddenly the building started shaking. The plaster on the walls started falling and there were cracks in the walls, some walls and parts of the building collapsed,” Herat resident Bashir Ahmed, 45, told AFP.

Hundreds of people feared dead

Bashir Ahmed further said, “I am not able to contact my family, the network connection has been disconnected.” “I am very worried and scared, it was terrible.” A spokesman for the National Disaster Management Authority told AFP that the death toll could rise as landslides also occurred in rural and mountainous areas. He said that at present we do not have correct information. The preliminary report of USGS says that there is a possibility of death of hundreds of people due to the severe earthquake.
