US expels two Russian Embassy officials: America has ordered two officials of the Russian Embassy to leave the country. This decision is being seen as the lowest level of deterioration in relations between the two countries.

It is noteworthy that this decision of America came when last month Russia had asked Moscow to leave two American officials from the country. Russia alleged that both the officers were in contact with a former consular employee, who was accused of collecting sensitive information. However, the American had distanced himself from these allegations and called them baseless.

America’s answer in ‘tit for tat’ style

After Russia’s decision, America has also given seven days time to Russian officials to leave the country. Russia had given the same amount of time to American officials Jeffrey Silin and David Bernstein. US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said in a statement, “The State Department will not tolerate harassment of our diplomats by the Russian government.”

US-Russia relations

The history of America-Russia relations has been full of tensions. After the Second World War, there was a long cold war between the two countries. Russia and America are the two biggest superpowers in the world. Both countries have common interests in space research, nuclear security and non-proliferation, counter-terrorism. Since the Ukraine war, mutual relations and trade between the two countries have reached a low level.

future of relationship

According to the Wilson Center, when the Ukraine war ends, both the countries can forget the tension and work together; because of the war, America’s relations with Russia are in cold storage. Since both have common interests, both countries would like to forget their mutual differences as soon as possible.
