India-Canada Diplomatic Row: There is a dispute going on between India and Canada regarding the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. In this series, India has given a deadline to Canada to recall its 40 diplomats from the country. To this, Canadian PM Justin Trudeau responded by saying that the Canadian government wants to help Canadians in India. On this, America said that it is aware of the ongoing deadlock on the issue related to diplomatic staff level.

America has refused to get involved in the ongoing diplomatic level dispute between India and Canada. US State Department deputy spokesperson Vedant Patel said he has received a report on diplomatic staffing levels for the Canadian High Commission in New Delhi. However, I have nothing to respond to those reports. I certainly don’t indulge in hypotheticals nor do I want to take any action on this.

Work under Indo-Pacific strategy
America said that we are focused on working under the Indo-Pacific strategy. Our efforts will continue. In this way America has made its stand clear on the India-Canada diplomatic crisis. A few days ago, Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar met US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Washington. Where America said that it supports the investigation of the allegations made by Canada against India and wants India to cooperate in it.

However, India reiterated that the allegations are baseless and Canada has not given any specific information in this regard. Canada said that it had shared the information with India several weeks ago.

Meanwhile, America’s National Security Council Coordinator John Kirby said that there was a discussion between S Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan on Tuesday (October 3) regarding the Canada issue. Kirby said, “We will certainly leave it to those two countries to talk about their bilateral relations.”

India warned Canada
Recently the Indian Ministry of External Affairs said that the number of Canadian diplomats in India is more than India’s diplomats in Canada. Apart from this, the Foreign Ministry accused Canadian diplomats of interfering in the internal affairs of India.

On this, India warned Canada to remove 41 of its 62 diplomats by October 10. After this decision, Canadian PM Trudeau said that his government wants to come forward in India to help the Canadian families. He reiterated that Canada is not trying to provoke India.

Canadian Foreign Minister’s statement
Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Jolie said that Canada is in continuous dialogue with India regarding the request for the return of diplomats. He said that this is a moment of tension. In fact there is tension between the two governments. It is more important than ever that diplomats remain in place and so we believe in the importance of a strong diplomatic presence in India.”

He emphasized that Canada wants to have personal talks with India. India has already banned visa services in Canada and accused Canada of harboring terrorists despite being warned several times.
