Elizabeth Polanco de los Santos, a 21-year-old student at Lehman College in the Bronx, New York City, was sentenced on Monday (October 1).

Let us tell you that Elizabeth had to stay at Dubai Airport for 10 hours to go from Istanbul to New York. However, this 10-hour stay turned into a nightmare for Elizabeth. The employees at the airport also searched him. During this time, the airport personnel requested Elizabeth to remove the waist compression which she was made to wear after the surgery.

Events till Elizabeth went to jail
Elizabeth’s ordeal began on July 14, when she was returning to New York from a vacation in Istanbul with a friend. During this time, she also wanted to stay in Paris for some time. With this idea he took a connecting flight from Dubai to New York. He thought of visiting Dubai during the 10-hour stay. When she came out, she was checked.

During checking, he did not find the behavior of the airport staff appropriate, so he filed a complaint against the female staff. After this he was asked to sign some papers to go out. However, after some time he was informed that he would have to stay in Dubai for a few days for legal work.

After being stuck in Dubai for weeks, a court judge allowed him to pay 10,000 AED (about $2,700 USD) and leave the country. Nevertheless, Dubai prosecutors appealed the decision and he has now been sentenced to a year in jail.

Radha Sterling, a human rights activist who helped Elizabeth, expressed concern over her situation. Speaking to Insider, he said that Elizabeth was only going to stay in Dubai for six hours. However, he has been there for several months now. During this period he has suffered a loss of $50,000.
