He tweeted, “Trudeau is trying to crush freedom of expression in Canada. Shameful.” Elon Musk’s tweet comes after a recent order from the Canadian government. In this order, it has been made mandatory for online streaming services to formally register with the government.
Why is Elon Musk angry with the Canadian government?
The Canadian government has ordered that before starting any kind of online streaming platform in Canada, information will have to be given to the government. The order states that all online platforms will also have to provide information about their activities in Canada. Along with this, online platforms earning $10 million annually will have to submit the registration form by November 28, 2023. Only after this decision, Elon Musk targeted Trudeau while replying to a journalist on a tweet.
The Trudeau government has been accused before of suppressing freedom of expression. In February 2022, emergency powers were used for the first time in Canadian history. He had given more powers to his government to suppress the protests of truck drivers regarding the necessity of the vaccine.
