The Corona virus is not airborne, but it is still spreading like wildfire in many countries. Many countries have shut down cities. India has also called a 21 days countrywide lock-down on 25th march and further expended till 3rd may.

The virus spreads mainly by droplets produced as a result of coughing or sneezing of a COVID-19 infected person. If we touch any infected surface, we can also get infected by the virus.

So the question is, How long does covid-19 live on surfaces? According to several researches, The virus can live for around three days on surfaces like plastic and metal.

According to Cleveland Clinic, Here’s how long the virus typically lasts on common surfaces:

  • Glass – 5 days.
  • Wood – 4 days.
  • Plastic & stainless-steel – 3 days.
  • Cardboard – 24 hours.
  • Copper surfaces – 4 hours.

We can stop us from getting infected by using mask and maintaining social distancing, but we are still purchasing groceries and receiving them by courier. We dont know if the packet is infected or not.

The best way to keep us safe is: Sanitize everything! Yes we must sanitize every surface around us. sanitize your door handle many times a day. After touching any object, we must wash our hand for about 20 seconds. Use of sanitizer is handy but try to wash hands with soap.

currently there is no evidence to support transmission of COVID-19 associated with food or food packaging. According to CDC “It may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes, but this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads.”

Here is a post for Cleaning food packets. The World is fighting with this new Virus. In this condition, try to help anyone in need. And at the end, Stay Home Stay Safe!
